These drugs may have a lower risk of side effects when used as a long-term therapy, and are recommended only for those indications where the risk of serious adverse events outweigh the benefits. When used as a long-term therapy, Nexium 24HR is not recommended for patients with severe acid-related disorders (including erosive esophagitis) that are not adequately managed by a healthcare provider.
A typical dosage of Nexium 24HR for adult patients aged 12 years and older for reflux esophagitis (GERD) is: 20 mg once daily for 14 days, then 20 mg once daily for 21 days. The recommended dose is 20 mg once daily for 14 days. The maximum recommended dose is 40 mg per day.
